About the programMaking space for creators from all walks of life
DIW recognizes that many local artists in Washington, D.C. cannot afford to rent studio space to prepare for gigs, tours, auditions, and other performances. The Incubator program exists to close that gap.
Through the Incubator, DIW offers residencies to underserved local artists at no charge. Selected artists receive dedicated time in our professional studios to develop, rehearse, and refine their work, with the full resources of a world-class facility behind them.
DIW hosts two to three Incubator residencies each year. Each residency is tailored to the artist’s project and timeline, and can roll into a public performance at the Fabian Barnes Black Box Theater. Incubator performances sit outside the DIW season, giving artists the freedom to present work on their own terms.
