About the initiativeCultivating arts careers for D.C.
Community on 14th is DIW’s open-access initiative for anyone interested in dance. Through weekly classes, career development seminars, professional workshops, and structured networking, we create space for people of all backgrounds to move, learn, and connect.
You do not need to be a trained dancer to walk through our doors. Community on 14th welcomes complete beginners alongside working professionals, parents rediscovering movement alongside teenagers exploring it for the first time. The only requirement is curiosity.
We also know that a career in the arts can provide financial stability, purpose, and community, but the pathway has historically been blocked by identity and financial barriers. Through career-focused programming, we equip artists with the knowledge, connections, and clarity needed to build sustainable creative lives.

Community on 14th is built on three interconnected pillars: training, professional development, and community.
Adult Class Series
Weekly drop-in classes across a range of styles, from classical ballet to Afro-FIT, Vogue Performance, and Afro-Latino. A mix of free and paid options led by professional instructors. No experience necessary. Build strength, confidence, and artistry at your own pace.
Seminars and Workshops
Focused sessions on the business of being an artist: grant writing, portfolio building, audition preparation, financial literacy for creatives, and more. Led by industry professionals and designed to give D.C. artists the practical tools they need to sustain a career in the arts.
Networking and Connection
Structured networking events, artist meetups, and collaborative sessions that connect D.C.’s creative community. Build relationships with fellow artists, choreographers, producers, and arts administrators who share your values and ambition.
