Creative Placemaking and Community Development

DIW Create generates opportunities to make and experience powerful dance for those artists and audiences who have been historically barred from access due to racial, economic, or cultural barriers. The diverse works in our spaces often challenge the status quo while speaking of justice, liberation, spiritual journeying, celebration and empowerment of D.C.’s majority Black and Brown communities.

From curated works to creative incubation, community partnerships to professional performances, DIW Create not only provides subsidized resources for artists to create work, but also enables audiences to access works from artistic voices that resonate with their own experiences.

Programming designed to advance equity in the dance industry focuses on professional development for artists who are aligned with our mission, including featured guest workshops, networking sessions, and round table discussions. Overall, DIW Create aims to enrich D.C.’s artistic identity.
